WHAT IS A ZERO WASTE CENTRE?
A Zero Waste Centre is a site where unwanted materials from the public and businesses are collected for reuse, recycling and reprocessing. Diverting materials from landfill or incineration and bringing them back into economic use, creating local jobs and opportunities.
The waste management infrastructure needs to change, moving away from wasting, to maximising recovery, reuse, recycling, reprocessing and the re-maufacturing of materials into new products.
This means separating materials at the source, to provide industry with high quality commodities.
A Zero Waste Centre is designed to manage 5 clusters of materials:
- Re-use
- Recycling
- Organics
- Hazardous
- Construction & Demolition
